  • A motion was passed to provide a $500 good works donation to local non-profit organization, Project Giving.  Their founder, Toni Slade, was the speaker at our August Chapter luncheon.  Donation will result in Chapter logo being shown on their 2015 Retro Night Glow 5K/10K race page, and 2015 race T-shirt (if 2015 sponsorship levels remain the same as 2014).
  • Chapter Christmas Social scheduled for Tuesday, December 2, at 6pm at The Brickyard.  It is requested that attendees bring stuffed animals for donation to children at the Ronald McDonald House.
  • CPCU Annual Meeting in Anaheim, CA (9/20-9/23) – Chapter new designees attending include Mary Collins, Kim Whitley, Chris Caldwell, Leanna Sherman, and Stanley Fluellen.
  • Chapter leaders Valerie Wynn, Chris Orrison, and Daniel Brown spoke to Accounting students at Central Georgia Technical College on Tuesday, September 16, about the benefits of working in the insurance industry.
  • In lieu of a speaker, the Chapter utilized the September luncheon as a 2015 planning session.  Discussion included:
    • CPCU Society Mission Statement – We are committed to providing resources , education programs and leadership opportunities that attract talent and enable individuals to expand their technical insurance skills and business capabilities in order to improve the overall performance of the insurance industry while adhering to the highest ethical standards.
    • Working with local high schools and/or colleges to promote careers in insurance.  Suggestions included career days, co-op programs, and Mercer freshmen experience course.  Discussions with students should include that there are “non-insurance” careers in insurance such as Human Resources, Accounting, and Information Systems.
    • Work with other local organization such as Kiwanis, Rotary, or Junior League to exchange speakers (we speak to them, they speak to us).
    • Luncheon speakers from other lesser known areas of insurance companies such as Human Resources or Information Systems.
    • More involvement in the community by volunteering or sponsoring within church groups, Wesleyan Market, Cherry Blossom events, etc.
    • Reach out to local television and/or radio stations to discuss insurance and/or answer questions.
    • Increased commitment on candidate development.
    • Teach a CPCU course in 2015.  A few recommendations for 540 course as it is thought to be the most difficult.  The 500 course was also recommended as it might help to get people started who have been reluctant to take CPCU courses.
    • Invite retirees to Christmas function.
    • Sponsor a Mercer football tailgate again.
